Question: How much luggage can I take on Chinese domestic flights? |

Answer:According to the regulations of General Administration of Civil Aviation of China:
- free luggage allowance for China domestic flights:
Any passenger holding a first class adult ticket or a half-price ticket is entitled to bear the luggage of 40 kg (about 88 pounds) free of charge (checked and carry-on luggage);
Any passenger holding a business class adult ticket or a half-price ticket is entitled to bear the luggage of 30 kg (about 66 pounds) free of charge (checked and carry-on luggage);
Any passenger holding an economy class adult ticket or a half-price ticket is entitled to bear the luggage of 20 kg (about 44 pounds) free of charge (checked and carry-on luggage);
No free luggage allowance for people who hold infant tickets.
- carry-on luggage for China domestic flights:
Each first-class passenger is entitled to have two pieces of carry-on luggage;
Each business-class and economy-class passenger is entitled to have one piece of carry-on luggage;
The size of each carry-on luggage should be smaller than 20 X 40 X 55 centimeter (7.8 X 15.7 X 21.6 inches) and total weight should be less than 5 kg (11 pounds). Otherwise, the luggage should be checked together with your other luggage. For luggage in excess of the free luggage allowance in piece, or the sum of the length, width and height of each piece exceeding the prescribed limits, an excess luggage charge should be paid. We recommend for efficient travel that each passenger travel with only one suitcase and one carry-on bag. Excessive number, size, or weight of luggage may result in your inconvenience and/or surcharge.

Question:Can I carry soft drinks with me on board planes? |

Answer:Passengers are allowed to carry liquid articles on planes, but there are some regulations which must be adhered to. Hereunder are the details as announced by the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) on Feb 5, 2003.
In order to ensure flight safety of civil aircraft and protect the life and properties of passengers, the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China has decided to tighten the control over carry-on liquid articles of passengers flying in civil aircrafts. It is hereby announced as follows:
- Each passenger may carry on his person at most two bottles per trip (the volume of each bottle should not exceed 500ML) of liquid articles such as carbonated beverage, mineral water, tea, milk, yogurt or fruit juice, and the bottles should be opened, inspected and confirmed beyond doubt before carrying onto an aircraft. Any liquids other than those listed above should be placed in checked luggage.
- Passengers should not carry on their person alcohol (bottled or canned). In those cases where the carrying of spirits is really necessary, the amount carried by each person each time should not exceed two bottles (one kilo), placed in checked luggage, and be in packaging that complies with CAAC regulations.
- Liquid articles that must be carried by a passenger on his person for special reasons, such as liquid medicine carried by a sick passenger and articles for drinking by an infant accompanied by a passenger, may be carried but must have their bottles opened, inspected and confirmed beyond doubt.
- Any passenger who violates the above regulations shall be responsible for any losses, such as a missed flight, that may occur due to the violation.

Checked Baggage Allowances
- Piece System:
Piece system applies to passengers heading for USA and Canada. According to the ticket class, the standard of baggage allowance are:
First Class and Business Class
Two pieces of baggage of which the sum of the greatest outside linear dimensions of each does not exceed 62 inches (158cms), and the weight of each does not exceed 70lbs (32kgs).
Economy Class and Tourist Discounted Class
Two pieces of baggage (measured together) of which the sum of the greatest outside linear dimensions does not exceed 107 inches (269cms), provided the sum of the outside linear dimensions of each bag does not exceed 62 inches (158cms), and that the weight of each does not exceed 70lbs (32kgs). Infant who paid 10 percent of the adult fare could bear one baggage provided the sum of the greatest outside linear dimensions does not exceed 45 inches (115cms)
- Weight System
According to weight system regulations, baggage allowance of each passenger is:
40 kg (88 lbs) for first-class passenger
30 kg (66 lbs) for business-class passenger
20 kg (44 lbs) for economy-class passenger
No free baggage allowance is granted to infants paying 10 percent of the adult fare
Carry-on Baggage Allowances
Passengers holing adult-fare or half-fare tickets are entitled to bear only one piece of unchecked baggage. The baggage should be suitable for placing under the passenger's seat or in the overhead compartment, and the sum of the greatest outside linear dimensions does not exceed 45 inches (115cms).
Besides, each passenger may carry in his own custody the following articles free of charge:
- A lady's handbag
- An overcoat, wrap or traveling blanket
- A raincoat, an umbrella or walking stick
- A small camera and / or a pair of small binoculars
- Infant food for consumption in flight
- A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight
- An infant cradle
- A fully collapsible wheelchair, a pair of crutches/braces or artificial limbs
Following are some articles which can't be shipped as baggage:
- Dangerous articles, such as inflammable, explosive, corrosive, poisonous, radioactive, polymerizable and magnetized material
- Arms, sharp or lethal weapons
- Articles forbidden or limited to import or export according to Chinese laws
Note: Never pack currency, jewelry, securities and other valuables in your checked baggage. |
